Building Climate Resilience at the Local Level: Challenges and Opportunities

This course, part of a 3-course series filmed live at AIA Seattle’s 2025 Climate Summit, explores nature-based climate solutions in urban and rural contexts, including their role in flood management, heat mitigation and habitat restoration. The presenters analyze ecosystem knowledge and ecological intelligence in the planning, design, and construction of climate-resilient and equitable built environments and identify strategies for achieving equitable climate adaptation.
This course is moderated by Gundula Proksch, Professor, Department of Architecture + Adjunct Associate Professor, Department of Landscape Architecture | UW. Case studies are presented by Juan Rovalo, Director of Ecology | Perkins & Will and by Lara Whitely Binder, Climate Preparedness Manager | King County. Executive Climate Office.
